Re: Trend for smb v3 Anti spam

v3 *does* have server side anti-spam - what it doesn't have is server side
quarantine (which v2 does have).

What this means is that when spam is detected, one of two actions are
possible:

a) delete the email. (no chance of recovery if it's a false positive).
b) deliver the spam to the end users quarantine, which means it goes into
the users mailbox, therefore into the mail store.

If you're going to use v2 - then you're in pretty good shape - you have your
quarantine and you have pretty good spam filtering - all via eManager.

If you're going to use v3, then you'll probably have to take some additional
steps.

a) Use IMF out front, rejecting with an SCL of, say, 6, 7, or 8. (finding a
reasonable SCL for reject is another topic). This will at least serve to
limit the amount of time your users spend poking around in the EUQ - not to
mention the problems brought on by them doing so.

b) Outlook JMF and trend EUQ conflict with each other, and now there are 2
junk mail folders with stuff ending up in one or the other. The 'approve'
mechanisms for each are different - and it's just too much for many users.
You've unnessicarily complicated the situation so that dealing with spam is
now costing you time and money; which anti-spam is supposed to prevent. So,
I'd suggest turning off Outlook JMF if using v3 and EUQ.

In fact, I'll go further. Use CSM v2.

It's downloadable, reliable, supported, has better spam filtering, and has
server side spam archiving. The keys for v2 and v3 are interchangeable.

You can upgrade to v3 anytime in the future - preferably after Trend have
released an update to v3 that at least gives back functionality that v2 had.
(there's no guarantee they'll do such a thing, but we can always hope).

That's v2. V3 has no server-side spam filtering.
