Re: Brooktrout Fax Board & MS SBS 2003 Premium

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

Here are some comments. We only use the card for receiving faxes so I am not
sure about sending

a) The fax is shared with an HP Laserjet 3030 which is set to answer on 6
rings as a backup (so this could be a problem), it is also used for sending.
I will test this
b) The HP3030 when I remove the Fax board from the line/circuit receives the
faxes with no problem (could relate to (a) above though)
c) Hard to tell, as we have many customers but my feeling is that the
problems occur from places that are either likely to have older equipment or
are in rural areas (of course this does not explain why the HP 3030 has no
problem).

This is now my 3rd attempt to try and resolve the problem, I first had a
3Com US Robotics 56K Fax modem, then a Duxbury 56000 Fax Modem and now the
Brooktrout (because it sounded like there was a good chance it would work).

Anyone have any ideas why the partially received faxes aren't being saved to
Fax console with the Brooktrout?

Thanks

Hannes

Thanks

Hannes

It's particularly interesting to see problems with Brooktrout because from
what I have read they are the answer to everyones Fax woes.
I have recently settled on the Creative Modem Blaster Card and seem to
experience no problems with them as long as the latest driver is used.
Cost of Creative Card 7 UKP
Cost of Brooktrout 399UKP

There's only so much you can do.

If you are having a very high percentage of failures, both send *and*
receive, to/from a very high percentage of destinations - you can assume
the problem is on your end. So a) and b) would apply.

If you're having some receive failures, and particularily if they're from
a small but consistent group of senders, then you can assume the problem
is likely on their end.

a) don't share the fax line with another analogue device (phone or fax
machine).
b) get your line tested for noise.
c) when the problem is on the sender's side - then there's nothing you can
do.

The sending machine should show a failied status for a failed
transmission, where you show a failed reception. That's his cue to send
again - or you can call him and tell him to try again.

I've come to *really* trust the brooktrout boards. When there's a
problem - it's 99.9% sure that it's on the sender's end.

Hi,

I am having a problem where I have just installed a Brooktrout TruFax 100
Fax Board which is on the Microsoft Server 2003 HCL. The card appears to
be
all working correctly receiving faxes etc. The driver that is being used
is
the standard (Microsoft) Brooktrout Fax Telephony Service provider with
driver version 4,3,2,84 that is installed via plug & play.

Here if have a problem with an incoming fax (I am not sure why I am still
having occassional reception failures as this was the reason I upgraded
from
an external fax modem) the partial fax is not displayed in the fax consol
even if 2 of 3 pages were received correctly (with the previous fax modem
partial faxes like this were generaly displayed in the fax consol just
showing the 2 pages).

Basically I have 2 questions
1. Why am I still getting partial faxes even with a Brooktrout Fax Board
which is supposed to be very resistant to fax reception failures?
2. How can I set up the system to store partial faxes when either a
portion
of a page is received or only a limited number of pages are received?

Thanks

Hannes
