Hi Simon

Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup.

From your description, I understand the issue to be: one windows 2000
workstation encountered error when attempting to join domain. If I am off
base, please don't hesitate to let me know.

First please ensure the Windows 2000 professional has been upgraded to the
latest version of service pack. You can download the latest SP4 in the
following website.

Windows 2000 Service Pack 4

workstation to domain:

I. Please double check DNS and Gateway settings:

1. Leave the Default Gateway of the internal NIC blank of the server box.
2. Configure the internal client computer's NIC and the internal NIC of the
server box to use the internal DNS Service (the internal NIC IP) as the DNS
Server. And there is only the DNS server be configured on client computers.

check the settings.

1. Right-click My Network Places, and then click Properties.
2. Right-click the external network adapter''s Local Area Connection icon,
and then click Properties.
3. Click Internet Protocl (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
4. Click Advanced.
5. Click the WINS tab.
6. Click "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP".
7. Click OK, click OK, and then click OK.

III. After verifying above settings, please Re-join the workstation to
domain to see if the issue be fixed.

1. Quit the workstation from the domain. To do so, see:

Locate in Client Computers in Server Management console and choose the
computer the customer has in right panel. Click Remove from network link to
delete the computer from domain.

2. Setup the client computer by running Setup Client Computer wizard to
setup computer account.

3. Logon the client computer with Administrator permissions and join it to
"Workgroup", and reboot the computer try to join it to domain by running
http://servername/connectcomputer. And assign appropriate user accounts to
the computer.

Note: Please ensure you have added the SBS Site (http://FQDN/*) in trusted
site in IE of the laptop. You can refer to the following steps:

a. Start Internet Explorer.
b. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

Hi,
I tried to add a client computer to the domain on the new sbs2003 server
today using the http://server/connectcomputer string, it complains that
the selected user settings are private and provides a link to a doc
explaining how to get round this here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/6/1/561c9fd7-0e27-4525-94ec-4d2d38
f61aa3/TSHT_SBS.htm#clients

text for the 2k part is
"If the client computer is running Windows 2000 Professional, log on to
the client computer as the user with the profile that did not migrate,
and then grant the Administrators group full control over the profile
folder and all subfolders.
To grant the Administrators group full control of the profile folder and
all subfolders

Click Start, and then click My Computer.
Double-click the drive where Windows is installed (usually drive C:,
unless you have more than one drive on your computer).
Double-click the Documents and Settings folder.
Right-click the user folder that did not migrate, click Properties, and
then click the Security tab.
Click Add, type Administrators in the text box, and then click OK.
Under Group or user names, click the Administrators tab, select Allow
for the Full Control permission, and then click OK.
Repeat steps 4 through 6 for all subfolders in the user profile.
Repeat steps 4 through 7 for each user folder that did not migrate.
While you are logged on with the user profile that did not migrate, give
the user ownership of all files in his or her profile.
To give the user ownership of all files in the user profile

Right-click the user folder to be migrated, click Properties, and then
click the Security tab.
Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
In the Change owner to box, select the user that you are giving
ownership to, and then click OK.
Select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box, and
then click OK twice to save your settings.

Run Client Setup again.
"

How to I run client setup again, if I try the /connectcomputer link it
tells me the computer is already on the domain.
Thanks for any replies.
simon
