Finally!

I have successfully landed in RWW. Two things were the final help:
(1) turning off Enable anonymous access and turning on Windows
Authentication on the companyweb website (mentioned in a months-old
thread here) to fix connectivity to the internal website internally
(and externally?); and (2) installing Port Detective on my home
office computer, to test whether I had indeed opened the correct
ports [I hadn't] in my firewalls.

I appreciate all the assistance given, and I hope this will be easier
for the next person.

Glad you got it resolved.

I still think Microsoft should have an installable program for RWW /
OWA, which could be run from a CD (or downloaded to same), for the
purpose of setting (or listing) all the various steps in the SBS
server and its router, and the remote computer (and its router),
simliar to the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

Actually, I'd be happy just to have the SBS wizards exhaustively documented.
This has always been one of my gripes.

Ideally, it would
check the settings and identify which needed to be changed, with
links to make those changes, or if not possible (such as for the
routers), then with a task list that spelled out (in untranslated
plain language) what needs to be done. Include a testing tool
built-in, similar to Port Detective, for checking those ports.
