Thanks for the input guys and for confirming this model has no built
in raid.
I've spent some time looking at HP and IBM alternatives. Can't get
anywhere near Dell's prices.
I will source a addon Sata raid controller along the lines suggested
by Gabreil and be done with it.
If Leonid is still reading. IMHO I fail to see any value in software
assurance unless you need the software now and know for a fact that
there will be a major update or new version within 2 years that you
will actually want. Even then the OEM version can be upgraded if
necessary and if 64bit will require new hardware anyway. SA seems to
be a bet between you and Microsoft on the future of your software with
MS holding all the Aces.
At current SA prices for the Premium edition AU$3397.00 you could
even consider buying a new Dell server with OEM SBS2003 Premium R2 for
less.
For what its worth I've ordered about 6 small Dell servers over the
last 3 years and 20 desktops. Other than a bad tape drive 3 years ago
I've not had a single failure. This gives me confidence in buying from
them. I also find their web site easier to manage and customise even
though the prices sometimes make you cringe.
Thanks again
David
