Hi,
The last Dell model I ordered was a SC420 which had a built in raid
controller. This coupled with 2 sata drives in Raid 1 has proven to be
very reliable.
Has anyone deployed a SC430 recently who can confirm if the
motherboard has a built in raid controller or not?
Dmh,
Please strongly consider not ordering SBS pre-installed with your Dell
system, but instead purchasing it through a volume license. The cost is very
comparable, but because your investment into OEM software license is not
transferable to other hardware, a volume license is generally a better deal.
In 3 years we will be using very different 64-bit hardware and you'll want
to upgrade.
You should consider also investing into sofware assurance, which is included
as part of Open Value license agreement, as that will get you SBS 2003 R2
and any other release that may occur in the next 3 years.
Otherwise, the SC430 is a great machine. Adding components should never void
the warranty, but Dell's on-site support may not cover the add-on component.
Did you actually have a CERC on-board in the 420? According to my attempt to
configure a 430, there is no built-in RAID controller on the motherboard and
they specify "OS RAID" as a "feature". ;-)
I sell HP, by the way.
