The email address for your domain.com is created when you run the ceicw. It
is stored in the recipient policy and for each of the users in active
directory. The reason that .local or .lan are recommended is that you have
to add records to the forward lookup zone so that when users on your lan
try to access your public web page hosted at a different location can be
accessible via dns and not resolve to the local network. Also another
reason is if you are hosting your own public domain in dns not only will
the public server addresses be accessible but all the clients internal
addresses as well making you network your box easier to hack.
