Situation: SBS2003 standard SP1, up to date Exchange. Following a couple of delivery problems, in Servers/(sbsserver)/Queues there are two queue items that won't go away. These are labeled "SmallBusiness SMTP Connector - worldnet.com (SMTP Connector). They used to contain a message that failed to deliver due to a handshake problem of the style Event 7004: This is an SMTP protocol error log for virtual server ID 1, connection #10. The remote host "207.202.xxx.xxx", responded to the SMTP command "xexch50" with "504 Need to authenticate first ". The full command sent was "XEXCH50 2060 2 ". This will probably cause the connection to fail.
I froze those queues, deleted the messages, but each the queues still contains a message that appears to be a clone of the original message (it is shown as having has the same length), but there is no way to delete that message. Looking at the properties of each of those messages, it shows N/A for number of body recipients, no recipient in Recipients list, same time of submission and expiration as the original message, 0 delivery failure and status of Queued. The messages and their queue persist after the expiration time has come and gone. How can I kill those bogus entries and/or the Queue items that contain them?
It would also be interesting to know how they got created in the first place, but for now I'd be happy to just get rid of them.
TIA
