I don't think I told the story correctly but no big deal. Basically the info
I am trying to get at is:
1. Does the server based activesync rely on OMA?
2. If so, how do I ensure that OMA is secure and the connecting devices are
not passing passwords across the web in clear text wihtout being
encapsulated or encrypted.
The mail.companyname.com or companyname.com debate is that the MVPs were
saying that they configure their servers and DNS so that they access their
RWW, OWA, etc via a mail.companyname.com.

Hi Mike
It took me a while to understand what you were meaning. I would agree
with the MVP's in what they are saying
When you configure your mobile device to connect to the server you would
use the same URL that you would for RWW or OWA
If you go to mail.mycompany.com in OWA then you would use the same url for
your mobile device. Likewise if you use an IP address for OWA then you
would use and IP address in your mobile device.
clear as mud I hope

| Hi James,
|
| THanks for the reply and the documentation! I had a very hard time
finding
| documentation for setting up the treo and in the end I had to cal MS
| support. I spoke for quite some time with a tech (apparently in the
| phillipines) name Bino and he insisted that the WM5/activesync used OMA
for
| syncing. This is an area where I feel that MS has done a horrible job of
| providing information to its customers. To top that off there are MVPs
| saying that in order to get it (activesync/treo700) to work you need to
run
| RWW, OWA, etc. under mail.companyname.com and other things like that.
|
| I will read the info you posted and, again, thanks for providing it!!
