Re: Error installing VPN on SBS 2003 SP1

Edward,

Interesting advice - I seem to have the same/similar issue, namely the
Remote Access Wizard is not completing and providing error 80004005, in
summary:

6weeks ago I upgraded our SBS03 STD Trial version to full retail. The CDs
that I used are marked "Includes SP1" and the product code on the box is
T72-00632.

When running winver I get a pretty Small Business Server Box with the
following info:

Microsoft R Windows
Version 5.2 (Build 3790.srv03_spl-rtm.050324-1447: Service Pack 1)

I had assumed that SP1 was installed.

I note your comment below regarding the version of wizrras.dll, the rraslog
on our machine also indicates wizrras.dll, version 5.2.2651.0. Which is odd
if we upgraded from SP1 retail media?

FYI:

Windows Server 2003 SP1 has not been installed
The clientapps directory has not been moved
I have attemped the suggestions of disabling RRAS and then rerunning the RAS
wizard - to no avail.
OWA, RDP and RRW work fine when accessing the server from the web
The rraslog indicates successful creation of sbspackage.exe on 13 April
2004, but not now.

I am now starting to really wonder if SP1 has been installed on our SBS
installation ?(irrespective of the pretty picture from winver).

I note from other blogs that one way to check is via:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\ServicePackNumber

On our machine there is no key for "Service Pack Number"

Can you advise if there are any other tell-tale file versions such as
wizrras.dll which would indicate if SP1 is not installed.... can you
recommend why the RAS wizard is terminating like it is?

The server is working just great apart from this issue - I don't want to be
missing out on features of SP1, but nor to I want to potentially stuff up the
server by re-intalling SP1 if that's not the issue!

Many thanks

Graham
