Hi Nick,
Have you had a look at WebObs (www.webobs.com)? If you're looking for
serious in-depth reporting it is a very good product. I'll admit that I
did work with the company, but am not paid in any way to promote their
product.
WebObs can provide you with all the information you'd get from the IIS
log files, without the overhead of enabling log files. In addition, it
reports on a bunch of other data that is not available from log files.
For example you can get full document usage history - i.e. find out who
deleted a document or who updated a document even if that document was
updated through Microsoft Word (using Frontpage extensions).
As well WebObs performs SharePoint Portal seach engine reporting. It's
really great knowing what people are looking as well as what documents
they're really finding!
Contact the company, they've got an online demo site - it's well worth
a look.
