Re: Can't ping

sestratton,

Default Gateway is only for reaching remote networks. When you do an
IPConfig /all is the ip of the DHCP server on the same subnet as the IP
address of the client? (Should be because that's all it should serve for
unless you made some special configurations in DHCP.)

Can you post an IPconfig /all from the server and an IPConfig /all from the
client.

Also, personally I would install Network Monitor on the server and sniff the
releasing and renewing of the IP address.

Another thing how are you pinging the server? Are you pinging the server?
By name or by IP address. If by name, try pinging by the ip address of the
nic on the same network as this new client.

If that fails, if you want to test whether it's a network problem or a
problem with the server blocking all traffic including ICMP, I wrote a
utility called sox. You can run it from the client. Just specify the ip
address of the server and a TCP port on the server that should be working.
Such as 445 if you have File and print services enabled. Or you could use 80
if IIS is serving on the adapter.

The error should tell you either that the server couldn't be found or if it
finds the server but the server refuses the connection it will indicate that.
After that you'll have an idea as to whether you have a network problem or a
configuration problem on the server.

The util is at:

Just unzip and run it from a command prompt.
