Hello Ben,
Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
I understand that you have two remote client workstations, one is Windows
2K SP4, and another one is the Windows XP. Windows 2K works OK, but
"Windows XP machine will not see any internal domain names". If I have
misunderstood your concern, please let me know.
Ben, I am sorry that from your description, I do not have a clear image
what exact issue you are experiencing. In order to supplement your
description, I need your help to gather the following information:
1. Please explain in detail where you found "WIn XP machine will not see
any internal domain names", so we can reproduce the issue on my test
machine. Do you mean after VPN into the SBS domain,
a. Windows XP cannot ping SBS 2K3 Server? OR
b. Windows XP cannot access SBS 2K3 Server shared folder by \\servername?
c. Or any other else?
2. You mentioned "the desktop (Win XP) cannot see the SBS domain by name
but can by IP", I need to know:
a. Please explain your steps in detail so we can reproduce your issue on my
test machine.
b. Do you meet any error message? If yes, please type the error message
word by word to the Newsgroup.
3. On the remote Windows XP workstation, VPN into the SBS domain first,
then open a command window, can you ping SBS Server by server name?
4. Also, after the remote Windows XP workstation VPN into the SBS domain,
open a command window, type "ipconfig /all" (without quotation marks), copy
and paste the full content to the Newsgroup.
Perform the same step on the SBS Server. Copy and paste the full content to
the Newsgroup.
[Note]: Do not edit or delete any results.
5. How many NICs installed on the SBS Server?
6. Do you have ISA Server installed? If yes, is it ISA 2K or ISA 2K4?
7. What is your Network Topology? For example:
{Remote Win XP} {Router} {Internet} {Router} {NIC1} {SBS 2K3 + ISA} {NIC2}
{LAN}
8. Does the Remote Windows XP workstation locate in the same network as the
good remote Windows 2K SP4 workstation?
For your additional information:
827603 Remote users cannot see a Windows Small Business Server 2003
computer in My Network Places

Please take your time gather the information for research. I am looking
forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee
