FYI issues switching from Veritas to NTBackup

At a customer site we decided to switch from Veritas backup for SBS2003 to
the native backup client.
Upon running our first backup I received this error message:
The 'Microsoft Information Store' returned 'Backup is already active.
' from a call to 'HrESEBackupSetup()' additional data '-'The 'Microsoft
Information Store' returned 'Functions called in an invalid sequence.
' from a call to 'HrESEBackupClose()' additional data '-'
I read several articles about Exchange and Shadow Copy regarding a recovery
store group. Well since I had not created a recovery group I started to
think of any issues I had with Veritas. I remembered on issues with VSS and
Exchange that was fixed by the following support article:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/275409.htm
This Veritas document references Microsoft article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q838183
I was able to fix the issue by undoing the "fix" that Veritas had me to do.
The short version of this post:
If you are receiving this error ensure that the following registry entry is
set correctly:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem
Disable Exchange Writer = 1
Reboot after you change the entry
Just a FYI for the group, I lost a day of work due to this.
