and thanks for the advice
i think the network problem has taken a different turn.
the initial symptom of the problem was printing freezing at workstations.
at the same workstations, I cannot open up the server at \\servername
almost as if the system is waiting or cannot communicate.
meanwhile if i access the mapped drives to the server which we setup in the
login script, those are fine.
internet surfing is fine also.
my thought now is what is the update mechanism for the printers from the
server.
if i create a new shared netwrk printer from the server, how long should it
be before the printer shows up on the users printers folders?
the only other thing that may be trouble is that my techs had shared about
10 locally attached printers in the last few months.
those printers were listed on everyone's printer folder. Is there a possible
problem with the number of concurent connections to a workstation that would
cause excess traffic etc as everyone is trying to communicate with everyone
elses printer?
I am in the process of 'unchecking' the option to list in the active
directory.
for machines that cannot print, i have had to go into the registry and
delete the printers from there.
I am sure i am having either some type of comunications problem maybe in the
network itself....yet internet works.
any ideas?
