If I purchase Windows 2003 Standard with 5 CAL, could someone give me the summary on who can do what on my network? For instance if this machine is a files server in the corner, can more than 5 people map a drive to it (we have 8 users)? How about if I use it for a web server, does everyone who access it form the outside need a licencee? My windows 2000 server is the PDC. The windows 2003 will be a member of that domain. Not sure if I should do per seat or per server. We have 8 PC's on the LAN.users on a lan accessing the server will each need a CAL. I believe the web server doesn't need CAL's, your only limit is your bandwidth.
My goal is to set up the 2003 server as a file and web server. How many Licenses do I need to buy? and what happens if you exceed the number? My WIndows 2000 machine just logs an error that it is out of lisences but everything works.
can someone shed a little light, i have read up but it looks confusing.
