RE: SMTP configuration

HI Miso,

Welcome to SBS newsgroup.

Issue description:
==============

I understand that some of your internet emails have been blocked by the
remote mail server.

Analyzing and suggestion:
================

Generally speaking, it should be an expected behavior, as most of the
remote mail server will perform reverse DNS look up, for you only have
dynamic IP address, so it is your best interest to use Smarthost sending
internet emails. I also understand that the ISP might be complain about the
relay issue, I suggest you contact with your ISP to see if they can host a
special smarthost for only relay emails from your domain, this might be
helpful to block any unauthorized relay.

If the ISP can not do this thing, it might be your best interest to change
for a new smarthost or change a new ISP to see if they can help you host a
MX record or use a special smarthost to relay your internet emails.

In the meantime, you need also follow the article below to make sure there
are no other unauthorized user to use your SBS as mail relay, this will be
helpful, if you use ISP mail server for relay.:

queues

I hope the above information helpful to your issue, please feel free to let
me know the results. I am glad to be of assistance.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

| Hi everyone,
| One of my clients has a SBS2003 Standard. As they can not afford a static
| IP, they are using ADSL and dyndns.org to map a domain name to their
| current, dynamic IP. This works out nicely for Remote Web Workplace etc.
For
| receiving e-mails, they use the POP3 connector. For sending e-mails they
can
| go both ways. However, when they "Use DNS to route..." they have some
| problems. Apparently some companies (which are important to them) are
| rejecting mails sent directly like that and insist on using ISP's mail
| server. If they "Forward all mail through this connector..." and enter
ISP's
| mail server, some other servers will now complain about relaying e-mail
and
| will reject it is well. So; I am kinda lost to what can be done in this
| particular situation. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
| Thanks,
|
| Miso
