RE: KB885918 SBS2003 SP1 Install Error

Hi Paul,
Yes, it is root cause. I am sorry for that I thought that you have
uninstalled the fax service from your initial post "reinstall the fax s/w
to get the XP2 deployment patch on it". The server tools component can not
be installed successfully because the server box can not deploy Windows XP
SP2 to client computers. So we need uninstalled the fax service to make the
update process successfully, after applied the whole SBS 2003 sp1, we then
reinstall the fax service by Windows Small Business Server integration
setup.
I am glad to know that things are getting fine now-). I appreciate your
time and effort to test and get this resolved.
Please feel free to post back when you need further assistance on this
issue and you are always welcome-)!
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu

Hello Jenny,
I checked the permissions for the extracted folder. Administrator and
Administrators were there but they only had special permissions. I gave
the user and group full control for the folder. I then looked in the
registry but there were no entries to match the Product Names. I ran
setup but it errored in the same place again. I've had a look in the
error logs and the errors look the same as before. I used the
smallbizserver.net documents when I was installing the first time. They
helped be get over a problem with the XP deployment. I had to uninstall
the Fax component to get it to work. I haven't reinstalled it, do you
think that could cause a problem?
Cheers,
Paul.
