Companyweb works from only 1 external site and only with VPN

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I have already spent about 50 hrs searching every corner of the
internet trying to find a solution to this problem. I don't believe
that some is broken, just a odd config setting that is causing the
problem.

I have a server running SBS 2003 Standard Edition. I am using 1 NIC. On
this server I am wanting to configure the companyweb so that it can be
accessed from the Internet. When I access the companyweb from my
internal network, the site works perfectly. I can access OWA and RWW
and all is good.

First on my router I have ports 80, 443, 444, 1725, 4125, 500, 1701,
1723, all forwarded to my servers LAN IP. I am using Linksys WRT54G.
The router setup is pretty much Out of the Box, with the exception of
the ports forwarded, and I have setup the wireless with WPA encryption.

When I am trying to access from a external site though (XP Pro
machine), I have some odd things happening. If I go to
https://FQDN:444 I get first my certificate window, which I
accept, then I get my login window, which I login to. Then I get
another warning window, and there I am at my sharepoint site that I
have running on my server. OK, but a couple things. My company logo
that I have inserted (instead of the Windows Server 2003 logo ), the
logo is not able to loaded. Next when I click on "Remote E-Mail
Access" (which is going to http://servername/exchange), I
get error that page cannot be found. Same error when I click on
"Remote Web Workplace." That error makes sense to me, cause
obviously, I have not published my servername to the internet, so it
does not resolve.

If I first create a VPN connection to my server, there is no difference
in the results.

Now, the really odd part is this. At that same external location, I
have another computer (XP Pro), and when I first create a VPN
connection to my server from that computer, I am able to go to
http://servername/exchange I get my sharepoint site, and
everything works fine. OWA and RWW links
(http://servername/exchange). That is where I am stumped. It
works great at one location from one computer, but only when I first
create VPN connection.

So to summerize my issue.

>>From External Site - PC 1, (XP Pro), only when I first create a VPN
connection to my SBS 2003 server over the internet, i can then go to
\\companyweb, and it works great. I can go to RWW, OWA, everything
works great, even my own company logo shows up right.

>>From External Site - PC 2 (XP Pro), with VPN connection or no VPN to
my SBS 2003 server over the internet, i then go to \\companyweb, and it
DOES NOT work. If I go to https://FQDN:444, the site shows
but I cannot go to \\servername\exchange. (in this description, I may
have some of the slashes backwards, but they are ok when I am testing)

I have tried moving the server to a DMZ zone, and that does not help. I
am using one NIC on the server and do not have ISA running. I have run
the CEICW wizard about 20 times but it does not help.

I have also tried disabling the firewalls on the XP boxes, and that
does not help either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
