Re: Setting up SBS 2003 and Windows Server 2003, same domain, 2 sites..

Hi Jordan,

Thanks for your update.

Technical speaking, there is no issue or additional Addons in your
scenario. However since it is a slow WAN link, I would like to suggest you
setup an additional DC in the remote site in order to decrease network
traffic and promote communication speed between clients and the server.
Does the Windows 2003 server in the remote site act as an additional DC? If
not, I suggest you promote the member server to an additional DC to
replicate the AD information in main office.

Generally, if you promoted the second DC and if you configured the DNS to
be replicated to All DCs, there will be a DNS Directory Replication
partition and if you installed DNS Service and created a same DNS
integrated zone, dns records will be loaded automatically.

To configure AD site, please refer to:

Additional Info:
===============
Once this replication setting is selected, object
"CN=MicrosoftDNS,CN=System,DC=DOMAIN,DC=COM" will be used to store all of
the zone information.

Please note that this option is usually for Windows 2003 DC. It will
replicate zone data to all domain controllers in the Active Directory
domain. If you want Windows 2003 DNS servers to load an Active Directory
zone, this setting must be selected for that zone.
==============

Now, I suggest that you do the following to see if it helps:

1. On the SBS Server, open DNS Console, open the DNS Zone replication
settings. Set it to "To All DNS Servers in Active Directory Domain
domain.com". NOTE: it is the default setting.
2. Delete the existing DNS zone in the second DNS Server, go to TCP/IP
configurations on the network adapter, use SBS Server's internal IP
address, which can be contacted from the additional DC as the DNS Server.
3. Go to command prompt on the Second DC, type "Net Stop netlogon" and then
"Net Start Netlogon".
4. Go to the SBS Server, open DNS Console and check if the DNS record for
the second DC is registered.
5. Create a new DNS zone with the same dns name, select to create an Active
Directory integrated Zone.

Hope above information helps! I am happy to be assistance to you!

Have a nice day!

Sincerely,

Jenny Wu
