Hi Frank,
Thank you for posting in SBS newsgroup.
>From your description, I understand the issue to be: you are using SBS 2003
Standard SP1 and an Administrator account can not log onto any client
computers, however you can use the account to logon to SBS. If I have
misunderstood your concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.
By default, the Domain Admins user group is added into the local
Administrators user group automatically when you join a workstation into
domain. That is, if a domain user account is a member of your Domain Admins
user group, it will have the administrator privilege on your workstation.
To narrow down the problem, would you please help me collect the following
information?
1. Double confirm if you have added the administrator account using Add
Users and Computers wizard on SBS and if you have added the administrator
account to the local administrator group of the client computer. You can
check if the problematic administrator is the local administrator as
following:
1) On client computer, open Control Panel and then click User Accounts.
2) Double click the account and check if the problematic administrator is a
member of Local Administrators
2. What is the error message when you logon to client computer using the
problematic administrator? Can you attach a screen shot to newsgroup?
3. Please help to collect the gpresult from the problematic client computer
for further troubleshooting. Please refer to the following command
gpresult /v > c:\gpresult.txt
Please send the gpresult.txt under your C directory to me at
v-crinal@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Also, I provide the detailed steps to bring the computers from "workgroup"
to "Domain" as following:
1. Make sure the client computers get the IP addresses and DNS
configurations from the SBS 2003 DHCP service correctly
2. In Server computer, Create a user account and computer account for each
user by using the Add Users and Computers Wizard
3. Log on a client workstation using its local administrator account
4. In client computer, open IE and run http://servername/connectcomputer
5. Follow the wizard to finish.
For more information regarding the known problems in running the
ConnectComputer wizard, please take a look at the following web page:

I am appreciated your time and looking forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,

| I am experiencing a problem adding a new workstation to a SBS 2003
Standard
| domain. When I use http://servername/ConnectComputer, it fails with a
vague
| error. I decided to manually add it to the domain using the System
Properties
| - Computer Name on the laptop. While it took almost 10 minutes, it was
| succesfully joined to the domain. After the reboot I tried to login as
| administrator and the computer hung at the point it says "Applying
Personal
| Settings".
|
| Investingating the event log, I found a few 1030 and 1058 events logged
and
| tried a few procedures I found to resolve the issue to no avail. I
decided to
| apply SBS service pack 1 and have not seen the events since. I still am
| unable to log onto any client machine using the Administrator account,
but
| have no problem logging onto the server with the same account.
|
| I have created an new Admin account with domain admin priveleges, and am
| able to do everything I need to join a computer to the domain and setup
the
| client computer.
|
| At this point I am concerned that I seem to have an Administrator account
| that is not working as expected. While everything is working and the
event
| log is clean, I'm uncomfortable not knowing why the Administrator account
is
| "broken".
|
| I have come up empty in my searches so far, any ideas are welcome.
|
| Thanks,
|
| Frank
