Re: SBS 2003 Exchange not getting external e-mail

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

HI Ron,

Thanks for updates.

Let me clarify the issue more clearly, if you could not telnet the MX
record of your SBS server on the port 25, it might be caused by the router
did not forward the package from 25 to the SBS NIC.

As you can telnet the SBS external NIC on the port 25, we can see that the
port 25 is opened correctly on SBS server side, you need to configure your
router to forward the port 25 from WAN IP to the SBS server IP, not sure
why you get a 10.x.x.x IP on the WAN side, do you have a public IP for your
SBS server? You can telnet the public IP for the port 25 from internet to
see if you can reproduce the issue.

It should be a router side issue. Please also contact hardware vendor to
see if they can help you on the router side. Thanks for your effort here.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

|
| 2 things pop up in my mind.
|
| 1. Are you sure you are port forwarding to the INTERNAL address of your
SBS
| serve?
| Rememebr that packets should hit the External address of your firewall on
| port 25 (assuming you dont have a NAT for your SBS server) and then be
| forwarded to the internal address of your SBS server.
|
| 2. I dont see any MX records for your domain in the DNS info you posted.
you
| should have an MX record for the root of your domain (ie. same as
parent)
| pointing to the A record that has the external IP address of your
firewall
| associated with it (again assuming you dont have the SBS server NATed out
to
| another external address)
