HI Tim,
Welcome to SBS newsgroup.
Issue description:
==============
I understand that one of the user encounter problem when receiving email
via POP3 from Exchange server on the remote side.
Analyzing and suggestion:
==============
In order to clarity the issue, please help gather more information; please
note that all the following steps is important for us to isolate the issue:
1. Does the issue occur only on that special user accounts?
2. If you logon that the problematic user on another remote workstation,
does the issue still exists or not?
3. Please also check if there are any error events on the event views paste
them to newsgroup.
4. If possible, please also paste the detailed error message when you
encountered timeout problem to receive the POP3 email on that client
computer. You can make a screen shot and sent to my mailbox.
v-chayan@xxxxxxxxxxxx
5. If you configure the OE to receive the POP3 email, does the problem
exists or not? You can follow the steps below to receive POP3 email from OE.
Go to the accountant''s workstation; open ''''Outlook Express''''. If this
is the first time you run the OE, a wizard will launch. Input the display
name and click ''''Next''''. Input the second mail address
user@xxxxxxxxxxxx and click ''''Next''''. Select POP3 and input the
Exchange server address in the server information box
6. Please also check if there are any hardware router or anti-virus
firewall installed on the remote client, please temporally stop it as test
to see if the issue still exists or not?
If this is a pure outlook issue, I suggest you also refer to the steps
below to check the outlook to see if the issue can be clear:
Step 1: Start Outlook in Safe Mode:
-------------------------------------------------------
If this issue persists, please start Outlook Safe Mode to test the issue.
Outlook Safe Mode will disable all extensions, corrupted resources, files,
registries, or templates.
(1) Click Start, and then click Run
(2) Type "Outlook.exe /safe" and click OK. (Without quotation marks but
there is a space in front of "/")
I appreciate your understanding on this issue, please feel free to post
back the results. I am glad to be of assistance.
Best regards,
Charles Yang (MSFT)

| Hi All,
|
| Have a small problem. I have SBS2000 running with about 10 users. All
| users except 1 can retrive mail using POP3 (some remote users have to do
it
| via POP3). I have switched loging on and can see that the Outlook client
is
| authenticating with the server, but when there is a message to retrive it
| hangs and comes back with the standard time out error. In Outlook 2003,
| when you go through the set up of a POP3 mail box there is a 'Test'
button,
| this appears to test successfully. Web Mail works fine so I can see the
| messages are definately there. It's just when you hit the 'Retreive
| Messages' button in Outlook the server reports that there are x number of
| messages to retreive, but then just hangs.
|
| Any help or pointers would be appreciated.
|
| Cheers in advance
|
| Tim
