RE: Fax Routing to Email Failing

HI,

Welcome to SBS newsgroup.

Issue description:
============

I understand that you encountered problem when routing incoming fax to
email.

Analyzing and suggestion:
=============

Before we go any further, can I assume that you have route the incoming fax
to the internal Exchange mailbox? If you route it to an internal exchange
mailbox, does the issue still exits or not?

In order to isolate the issue, we may gather some more information:

1. Please rerun CEICW to make sure that exchange internal email transport
run correctly, do you encounter any problem in sending and receiving
internal email?
2. Please check your event view to paste any related fax and exchange error
message to newsgroup.

I also suggest you refer to the steps below to configure your SBS for
routing incoming fax to mailbox, it might be helpful to your issue:

On SBS 2003, click "Start", point to "Administrative Tools", and then click
"Active Directory Users and Computers".

1. Expand the domain object, right-click "Users", point to "New", and then
click "User".
2. Type an easy-to-remember first name and logon name for the user, such as
"Fax" (without the quotation marks), and then click "Next".
3. Enter a password for the new user, and then click "Next".
4. Click "Create an Exchange mailbox", and then click "Next".
5. Click "Finish" to create the Fax user.
6. After you create the Fax user, click "Users", right-click the Fax user
in the list of users, and then click "Properties".
7. Click the Exchange Advanced tab. If this tab does not exist, close the
Fax user Properties, click Advanced Features on the View menu, and then
open the Fax user Properties again.
8. On the Exchange Advanced tab, click Mailbox Rights, and then click "Add".
9. Click to select the Domain Users group, click "Add", and then click "OK."
10. Under the "Allow" column, click to select the "Full mailbox access"
check box, and then click "OK" two times.

For more detailed information, we suggest you refer to the following KB
article for more detailed information; you can follow the SBS 2000 steps to
configure your SBS 2003 as a tests. We confirm the KB article might be
helpful to all most all the fax related common issue:

311529 SBS: How to configure the Shared Fax service to route incoming fax
jobs
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=311529

Please also tell us how you set your Exchange SMTP to be a non anonymous
access, because as I know all the domain user will be able to relay through
the SMTP server, it seems you denied the fax account to relay through the
SMTP server, if possible please add the fax account above to make sure that
it can use the SMTP server for relay.

I really appreciate your time to perform test on this issue, please feel
free to let me know the results. I am glad to be of assistance.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

| I am currently using SBS 2003, Exchange and Microsoft Shared Fax.
Everything
| while setting it up worked ok. Exchange & Microsoft Fax were both set to
| Anonymous SMTP. Recently I have changed Exchange to use Integrated
Windows
| Authentication to keep the server a closed relay. Since that time,
Microsoft
| fax will no longer route to an email address. I have also change the Fax
to
| use Integrated as well. It still fails. If I change everything back to
| Anonymous for testing purposes ONLY, everything works correctly. Please
| advise on how to correct this as I need my exchange server to stay
secured.
|
| Thank you.
