RE: MSDE, Access, SharePoint... I am not sure where to ask this qu

Hi SailFL,

Thank you for your kind update.

1. >> What is the difference between MSDE and WMSDE?

Microsoft Desktop Engine (Windows) (WMSDE), WMSDE is a special edition of
MSDE that is targeted for use by Windows components only. It is installed
by default in a single server installation of Windows SharePoint Services.?

- The MSI of WMSDE that SharePoint installs is Sqlrun16.msi with the
instancename of SharePoint.
- A single server installation will have two databases created: a
configuration database, STS_CONFIG, and a content database,
STS_servername_instance.
- WMSDE is configured for Windows Authentication only.
- The 2 GB database size and performance throttles on total number of
concurrent connections are removed.

2. >> So in reality, isn't SQL Server Express replacing MSDE and WMSDE?
So I can use Access to have database files on a SharePoint site. Will that
Access also than be able to connect to SQL express and can it do it now?

As for SQL problem, I would like to suggest that post a new thread to SQL
newsgroup. The reason why I recommend this is that you will get the most
qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who the newsgroups
regularly can share their knowledge. Please also understand that our SQL
team are specialists and they will help you get this issue to be resolved
in an accurate and timely manner. Thank you for your understanding.

For your convenience, I have listed the Internet Explorer newsgroup below:

Have a nice day!
