HI Tony.
Welcome to SBS newsgroup.
I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!
Issue description:
============
I understand that you can not send the internet email via your Exchange
server.
Analyzing and suggestion:
===========
Generally speaking, the issue should be a common problem, in order to make
the issue more clearly; we need to gather more information:
1. If you use the CEICW wizard to configure the email setting, please tell
us what the detailed error code is, you can check it on the icwlog.txt
file, and paste the file to the newsgroup for further research, please only
paste the recent information.
2. I am not sure how you install the Exchange server on the SBS 2003, did
you install it via SBS integrate setup or just using the SBS CD2 to install
it directly, if you follow the last method, it will cause a lot problem, we
suggest you run SBS integrate setup again to install the Exchange
components to solve the issue, as I know the Exchange on SBS 2003 is
different with the Exchange 2003 retailer version.
3. Does the email problem also occur when you sending internal email inside
SBS domain?
For your convenience, I suggest you refer to the KB article below to rerun
CEICW after you rerun SBS integrate setup, please also clarify which method
you use to send emails routing internet email via DNS or using the
smarthost on the ISP. Please also check the event view to see if there are
any error event relate to Exchange.

| Hello,
| A few months ago we setup a new SBS2003 server. At the time there was
no
| plans to use Exchange so it wasn't installed. Now they want to use it so
I've
| installed it and applied Exchange SP2 and when I run the email config
wizard
| it fails with the following message:
| An error occurred while configuring a component.
| To continue with the wizard and configure remaining components, click OK.
| To end the wizard without configuring the remaining components, click
Cancel.
|
| I found the following article that relates to this error:
|
| Checking what it says to do I noticed it already is AD integrated.
|
| So now the situation is, and I don't know if it is related to this error,
we
| asked the original email provider to divert the MX record for their
domain to
| this server last Thursday and some emails trickled in but any attempts we
| made to email the admin account always replied back in about 8 hours
saying
| "Unable to send email for the past 8 hours". Until today, email I send
from
| home to the admin account goes thru instantly (i tried thru 3 different
| providers). However if my business partner tries emailing from his home
using
| the same 3 providers it doen't go thru. We even checked the original pop3
| accounts to see if the emails were coming in there and they aren't.
| Sorry for the longwinded message. Any further suggestions anyone ?
|
| Thanks,
| Tony Tuccillo
