Re: Outlook XP POP issue with SBS2003 SP1

HI,

Thanks for your updates.

After checking your email, we found that the error code should be
0x80042108. Due to the quality issue, I could not see the error code when
you using "test account setting" if possible could you tell us the error
code of that or detailed error message of that. Thanks for your effort

Here I would like to give you some suggestion on the error code you
encounter. It should be a wired issue, we suggest you strict follow my
suggestion below for testing, it should be very important, some steps you
may test in your previous reply, I really appreciate your understanding on
this issue.

Step 1: Safe Mode with Networking (very important to isolate the issue)
=======================
1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On
a multi-boot computer, you can press the F8 key when you see the Boot Menu.

2. When the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" appears, select Safe Mode with
Networking, and then press ENTER.

3. Check whether this issue exists in Safe Mode with Networking.

| Hi,
|
| Thanks for detailed updates.
|
| From your description, it seems you encountered a problem only on an
| additional POP3 mailbox on outlook. It should be a pure client issue.
|
| If all the setting is correctly, please help gather some more information.
|
| 1. Could you send me a screenshot of error message when you configure
your
| POP3 account on the "test account setting".
| 2. Do you encounter any problem after you configure the outlook to use
this
| pop3 account send and receive emails? If you encounter problem, paste the
| detailed error code and error information to newsgroup. You can just
ignore
| the test account problem then navigate to the POP3 account on the outlook

| |
| | Just to clarify, the problem I'm having has to do with configuring an
| | additional Outlook POP3 mailbox in Outlook. The exchange mailbox on
our
| | SBS2003 server works fine.
| |
| | I have tried everything you suggested including:
| | 1) Creating new profile
| | 2) Outlook safe mode
| | 3) Disabling Windows firewall and anti-virus.
| | 4) I didn't try OWA as this has nothing to do with POP email in Outlook
| (it
| | just accesses my exchange mailbox).
| | 5) Tried "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication."
| |
| | With the new OL2003 profile I am back to the situation where if you use
| the
| | "Test Account Settings" button from within Outlook (Tools->Email
| | Accounts...) it fails with "specified server was found but there was no
| | response..." for both the POP and SMTP.
| |
| | If you perform the same "Test Account Settings" from the Mail control
| panel
| | it works!
| |
| | We see the same behaviour in OL2002 and OL2003.
| |
| | Outlook express works with the exact same POP account settings on the
| same
| | PC over the same LAN connection (using the same POP & SMTP ports) so I
| don't
| | see how this could be a firewall or ISA issue.
