Equipment and infrastructure help

Would someone give me an idea where to post for help in identifying
equipment and infrastructure needs?

My 'server' systems include a SBS 2000 machine for the communications in the
company. A file server with W2K Server also runs the license server for a
CAD viewing software, and is the second domain controller in our Active
Directory. Another server is an old Dell box with WinNT Server, perhaps
with an old SBS, but is only used for non-critical files. Another computer
runs WinNT Workstation and runs a Progress database application.

I'd like to replace my 'server' systems (all will be at least 5 yrs old next
year) but would like to improve the infrastructure while I'm doing it. For
example, I know I want a new server with SBS2003 pre-installed, if possible,
but I want to upgrade to gigabit switches, too. I'm thinking it would be
possible to move the file server's data to a NAS device, then move the
non-critical files to my current file server or to the NAS, too. I'd like
to use the 'snapshot' technology to do backups to disk. I don't know if
it's possible, though, to configure a NAS (or whatever) to house the data in
one part, and create backups of the data in another part. For disaster
recovery / offsite storage, I am considering putting in a smaller NAS at
home and configuring it to mirror the backup part of the data. I don't want
tapes. I've looked at a few solutions with removable drives for offsite
backups. I'd like whatever solution to be wired so that the backups would
not cause interference with the network bandwidth, although with gigabit
speeds, I probably wouldn't notice a difference, would I?

Obviously I'm no expert. But by sharing what I'm thinking, maybe someone
could point me to the correct newsgroup or links for more help. This major
project is probably a small task for many of you. I'd appreciate any help
you would share.

Thanks,
Keith
