Hello David,
Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
I understand that you got error message saying "lost the correct security
identifier (SID) when the domain was reconfigured". If I have misunderstood
your issue, please let me know.
Due to lack of detail information, I need your help to gather following
information:
1. Please explain in detail how you "rebuild my SBS 2003 server". For
example:
a. You performed a restoration of the SBS from a backup. OR
b. You clean reinstalled the whole SBS. OR
c. You joined the rebuilt Server to the previous Domain? OR
d. Any other method? If yes, please state clearly.
2. Does this issue occur on all client workstations or several?
3. Is client experiencing log on issue? If yes, what is the exact error
message?
4. On the server and one of the problematic client workstations, run
"eventvwr" (without quotation marks), check whether there is any error. If
yes, double click it, click the Copy button and paste the full content to
the Newsgroup.
===========
For your information:
In a Domain environment, SID is used to identify different Objects such as
user and computer accounts. Though the new SBS server name and the Domain
name can be named the same, it is a different Domain which does not have
the SID information of the previous Domain, thus cannot recognize the
Objects in the previous Domain.
I suggest that we can perform following steps on one problematic client
workstation and see whether it works.
We can simply disjoin domain, rejoin domain, and check if the issue still
occurs. I would like to brief the main steps as the following.
1. Disjoin this workstation to a workgroup temporarily.
2. Delete the computer accounts from Active Directory Users and Computers
on the SBS Server. Make sure the client computer object for this client is
removed.
3. Run "Setup Client Computers" wizard to create a new client computer
account for this client
4. On this client workstation, please use http://SBSServer/connnectcomputer
to open the wizard and rejoin this workstation to the domain.
5. Follow the wizard and join this client to the domain
6. Test your issue again.
If there is any further error message when you perform above steps, please
let me know the detailed information.
Thanks a lot for your time. if you have any updates, please feel free to
let me know. I am looking forward to your reply!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee
