RE: Printer disappearing

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi Joe,

Welcome to SBS newsgroup.

Issue description:
===========

I understand that one of the printer on the client computer disappeared and
comes when you reboot the client computer.

Analyzing and suggestion:
=============

Due to lack of information, it is impossible for us to tell you the root
caused. In order to clarify the issue, please help gather more information:

1. Can you reproduce the problem on the client computer every time? If you
try to print on this client computer with some application such as word,
can you find the printer from list?
2. If you connect the printer to another client computer, does the issue
still exists or not?
3. Could you tell us the detailed hardware information of your printer?
4. Is there any error event in the event view on the client computer?
5. If possible, please also contact the hardware vendor to see if there are
any updates for the printer driver, please also reinstall the printer
driver on the client computer as a test to see if the issue still exists or
not?
6. Is there any third party tool on the client computer? If possible,
please also make a clean reboot of the client computer and test if you can
reproduce the issue, you can follow the steps below to make a clean reboot:

If the issue persists, to narrow down the issue, please check if the issue
occurs in Safe Mode wtih network. To enter Safe Mode:

1. When the Boot Menu appears at startup, press F8.
2. On the Windows Advanced Options Menu, select Safe Mode with networking
and press Enter.
3. When the Boot Menu appears again, select Microsoft Windows XP, and press
Enter.
4. Log in Windows by using the Administrator account and password.

I really appreciate your understanding on this issue, please feel free to
post back the information. I am glad to be of assistance.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)
