I am sorry about your recent experience with PSS. Please advise Microsoft
that you feel you should not be paying for these support incidents. :-)

Now define "screw up". Fixing a server is much like fixing a Rubik's cube -
it appears a total mess until the final two revolutions. Sometimes more
errors show up after the masking cause has been fixed. Still, it seems like
rebuilding the environment might be the better way to go now. You'll
probably want to reset local administrator account and dis-join the PCs from
the existing domain with your cached Admin credentials and then reattach
them and hopefully keep the profiles intact. That's tricky stuff.

If you are reinstalling the server from scratch consider doing it this way
(minimum of 4 hard disks and ideally 1 raid controller required):

Mirror 1:
System partition 20 gb
data partition rest of disk

Mirror 2: (can use tiny disks)
transaction logs/pagefile (10gb or so)
recovery partition for system (30gb or so)

Once your server is operational, capture a disk image to the recovery
partition for safekeeping and setup a backup task to backup just your system
state daily there as well.

Obviously configure a regular backup as well.

Good luck!
