Re: SBS2003 - Cannot restore GPO following Article 888943

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

HI Aj,

It seems the issue should be related to DNS server issue. We may let the
SBS CEICW help recreate a DNS forward zone. Before we use the CEICW to
create a DNS zone, please tell us if you have any other DNS entry for the
website other than the default setting such as companyweb and default
website? If have, you need to manually recreate that data after DNS
recreate, here I suggest you navigate to the DNS console then delete all
the DNS forward zone. Then rerun CEICW to let the wizard create a new DNS
zone for your SBS server, please carefully go through every steps not just
by pass the steps.

Also make sure that all the DNS entry on the client computer TCP/IP
properties only SBS internal NIC is in the list, this will resolve the DNS
delay issue. We encounter so many similar issue that the customer encounter
problem when logon the domain or connect to exchange server very slowly as
they add a second DNS server as a backup DNS server, so that every time the
client computer will try to search both server so it cause the process
slowly.

I hope the above information helpful. Thanks again for your efforts.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

| Hi,
|
| Thanks for helping so far. For budget reasons, we have to explore this
| route first. We've made a ghost image of the system drive so we'll
| have that to fall back on.
|
| I note that the DC and DNS are still working, albeit slowly. How can I
| check to see if they're still set up properly? Is there a template
| version that I can access to see what they should look like?
|
| When using Outlook from a workstation, access time seems to be slow.
| The rights verification seems to hang for a few seconds. When using
| Explorer from a workstation, I've noticed that I've had to log in over
| again. Seems like a rights problem to me.
|
| Any thoughts?
