Hello Mark,
Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup.
To narrow down this issue, please kindly answer and perform the following
questions and steps:
I. As you mentioned, you received this error message "Microsoft Exchange
Calendar Connection Parent Component Failed" while reinstalling Exchange,
please help me collect the following log files for further analysis:
Please locate the following log files on the SBS Server, and check if there
are any error messages about this issue, then paste the full context in
your reply.
%systemdrive%\Exchange server setup progress.log
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp\eventlog.txt
II. As for these Application Event Errors:
POP3 Connector, 1019, 1023, 1036, 1029
First, I would like to thank for your pre-troubleshooting process and
information to isolate this issue. From the error information, it is a
standard error for wrong username and password. If you have confirmed that
the user credential is correct, I think this issue is somehow router or ISP
related. Anyway, let's perform the following test on a client workstation
to check if it is a POP3 connector issue or a network issue.
A. Test OE on the client workstation
1. logon to one of the client workstations in the SBS network.
2. Bring up the Outlook Express
3. Set up the POP3 account for the remote POP3 server on the OE
4. Connect and try to retrieve and read emails.
Please let me know if mails could be downloaded by OE on this Windows XP
machine
B. If test I still fails, please try to setup the DNS on the SBS server to
check if it is a DNS issue and let me know the result.
1. Click "Start", point to "Administrative Tools", and then click "DNS".
2. Right-click the server object in DNS, and then click "New Zone".
3. Click "Next" on the first page of the New Zone Wizard.
4. On the "Zone Type" page, click "Primary zone", and then click "Next"
5. On the "Active Directory Zone Replication Scope" page, click "To all
domain controllers in the Active Directory domain", and then click "Next".
6. On the "Forward or Reverse Lookup Zone" page, click "Forward lookup
zone", and then click Next.
7. On the "Zone Name" page, type the ISP Pop3 mail server FQDN, and then
click "Next". For example, type "pop3.isp.com" (without the quotation
marks), and then click "Next".
8. On the "Dynamic Update" page, click "Do not allow dynamic updates", and
then click "Next",
9. Click "Finish" to complete the wizard.
10. Double-click "Forward Lookup Zones", and then click the new zone.
11. Right-click the new zone, and then click "New Host (A)".
12. In the "New Host" dialog box, leave the "Name" box empty, type the
server's internal IP address in the "IP address" box, and then click "Add
Host".
13. Please open a command prompt window, and then run the ipconfig
/flushdns command to renew the DNS record.
NOTE: If the IP address of the POP3 server changes (if the POP3 server does
not have static IP), the POP3 connector will still fail.
C. If the problem persists, please try to collect following information for
further analysis
1. When does this issue begin to occur? Have the POP3 connector been
success ever?
2. If connect to another remote POP3 server via POP3 connector, can this
issue be reproduced?
Additionally, please kindly note that this issue is rather complicated and
time-consuming, to resolve it, we may need more deeper troubleshooting and
collect more log. If the case and the issue is urgent to your business, it
is recommended that you contact CSS support, since there could have more
interactive troubleshoot process with Microsoft Support professional and
even have remote assistance. Due to support nature of public newsgroup, it
is not convenient to be done here. Please be advised that contacting phone
