Re: Unable to migrate computers from W2K to W2K3 SBS

Hi Joseph,

This is a update email.

Based on my research, the error message "ERR3:7075 Failed to change domain
affiliation, hr=8007054b" may be related to the following factors:

- 1. Renamed Machine account during migration.
- 2. NetBIOS and DNS name resolution.
- 3. In some cases, this problem only occurs when using ADMT in test mode.
If we choose "Migrate now" to perform a real migration, everything works.

Therefore, please check the following and let me know if the problem is
related to one of these possible causes:

1. You are using the last version of ADMT V2, which can be downloaded from:

Download details: Active Directory Migration Tool v.2.0
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=788975b1-5849-4707-
9817-8c9773c25c6c&displaylang=en

2. Do not change the computer account.

3. Please configure the DNS name resolutions for the two domains. For
example, we can create a secondary DNS zone for the other domain on each
domain's own DNS server. Therefore, the name resolution for both domains
will work correctly and the domain controllers will be accessible.

4. Ensure DNS servers were working properly.

5. Add the IP of source server in Host file on destination server and vice
versa. Does this help?

6. Install Support Tools From Support\Tools folder on Windows 2000 CD or
SBS 2003 CD, and run "netdiag /v" to check the network connection.

I appreciate your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please feel
free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Nathan Liu (MSFT)
