Re: POP3 CONNECTORS

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for using SBS newsgroup.

I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!

Issue description:
==============

I understand that you encounter problem when configuring POP3 connector for
yahoo emails.

Analyzing and suggestion:
===============

Generally speaking, this issue should be caused by the authentication
issue, it did not refer to the POP3 connector. You can refer to my
suggestion below:

1. POP3 connector will route the incoming POP3 emails to exchange mailbox.
so the problem you encountered should be a pure client issue, I suggest you
refer to the steps below to see how to configure a POP3 account on the
outlook 2003.

How to Configure a POP3 E-mail Client
-------------------------------------

The following are the basic server settings for Yahoo! Mail:
+===============================+===========================================
==========================+
| Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: | pop.mail.yahoo.com
|
+===============================+===========================================
==========================+
| Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: | smtp.mail.yahoo.com
|
+===============================+===========================================
==========================+
| Account Name/Login Name: | Your Yahoo! Mail name (your
address without the "@yahoo.com") |
+===============================+===========================================
==========================+
| E-mail address: | Your Yahoo! Mail address (i.e.
user@xxxxxxxxx) |
+===============================+===========================================
==========================+
| Password: | Your Yahoo! Mail password
|
+===============================+===========================================
==========================+

How to Add a New E-mail Account to Your Existing Profile
--------------------------------------------------------

1. On the Tools menu, click "E-mail Accounts".

2. Click "Add a new e-mail account", and then click Next.

3. Click the Add button.

4. Click "POP3", and then click "Next".

5. Enter your e-mail account information.

6. In the Your Name box, type your name as you would like it to appear.

7. In the "E-mail Address" box, type your Yahoo! e-mail address, for
example, user@xxxxxxxxxx

8. In the "Incoming mail server (POP3)" box, type "pop.mail.yahoo.com"
(without the quotation marks).

9. In the "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)" box, type "smtp.mail.yahoo.com"
(without the quotation marks).

10. In the User Name box, verify that everything before the at symbol (@)
symbol of your Yahoo! e-mail address is displayed.

11. Enter your Yahoo! password.

IMPORTANT: The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server now requires authentication. To this
setting on, follow these steps:

1. From the Tools menu, click Accounts.

2. Click the Mail tab.

3. Click your Yahoo! Mail account, and then click Properties.

4. Click Servers.

5. Click to select the My Server Requires Authentication check box, and
then click OK.

How to Control Deletion of Messages from the Yahoo! Mail Server
---------------------------------------------------------------

1. In the properties of the Internet E-mail settings, click the "More
Settions" button.

2. Click the Advanced tab.

3. Click to select the "Leave a copy of messages on the server" check
box if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail
server as well as on your local computer. If you want your messages to
be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server once you have received them, do
not check select this option.

4. Click OK.

5. Click Next.

6. Click Finish.

For the POP3 connectors, you might need to configure on the server side and
the email will be route your existing exchange mailbox, you do not need to
configure it on the client's outlook 2003.

Hope the above information helpful, please feel free to let me know the
results. I am glad to be of assistance.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

| If Outlook is set up to use Exchange, you should login to Exchange (with
| your domain credentials, not Yahoo's). Exchange will periodically login
| to Yahoo (using the credentials you stored when setting up POP3
| connector) to fetch your mails.
