Re: Tivo Wireless Adapter Brings Down Whole SBS 2000 Network

This makes perfect sense that the server got a dhcp-assigned IP from the
Linsksys, and now it's acting finicky about getting one from the cable
modem.

I would try r-clicking the server's external NIC and choosing "Repair,"
which does the ipconfig /renew plus several other resets of networking
components. My guess is that will work, but if it doesn't, I'd connect
everything as you expect to leave it and reboot the SBS. I'm thinking maybe
the RR guy is right that it's a DHCP thing. Two comments:

- I'm not familiar with that particular Linksys, but I'd be trying to use a
static IP on the external NIC of the SBS. Although this happened in a way
that someone could consider to have been other than business related, the
fact remains that you're relying on a simple and low cost device to be doing
DHCP to that server, something I'd personally prefer to avoid.

- Resist the temptation to start messing with settings or anything else on
the SBS (other than maybe switching that external NIC to a fixed IP).
Remember, nothing has changed on that server since it was in a working
configuration, so I would absolutely not start messing with ISA or anything
else in the absence of a very good reason for doing so. And if you can't
resist the temptation, at least document any change you made. As nearly as
I can tell everything that changed was on that Linksys, so fix it on that
side of the SBS.
