Hi,
Thanks for using the SBS newsgroup! Also I would like to thanks for
Xavier's great input.
For your description, I understand that you want to setup a SBS 2003 domain
environment and make the original Windows 2003 server as a backup of the
SBS 2003 server box and terminal server. If I am off base, please don't
hesitate to let me know.
For your scenario, I suggest that you follow below suggestions to process:
I. Clean install a SBS 2003 server box and then add it to the existing
domain to maintain the existing Active Directory directory service
infrastructure, please follow the steps below:
NOTE: The following conditions must be true after you install the new SBS
2003 computer in an existing domain or the new SBS 2003 computer may
display warnings and shut down periodically:
- The new SBS 2003 computer must be a domain controller that is installed
on the root of the domain.
- The new SBS 2003 computer must hold all the Flexible Single Master
Operation (FSMO) roles.
- The new SBS 2003 computer must be a global catalog server and must be the
licensing server.
- There must not be any existing domain trusts or child domains.
- Only one SBS server can exist on the domain. If SBS 2003 is installed, no
other SBS 2003 or 2000 server can be installed on the same domain.
Please strictly follow KB 884453 to process the configuration to make
everything works well:

*Note: after the replication is successful, if you want to the Windows 2003
act as an additional DC to backup the SBS server box, you need not run
Dcpromo.exe to demote it to a member server.
II. To deploy a terminal server in SBS environment, we need to configure
licensing on the SBS 2003 server. Please refer to the KB 327644 to get
detail steps to configure licensing and add client access licenses on an
additional server.
