Hi TV:
Thanks for posting here!
Based on my research, the In-Place upgrade path from NT4 to SBS2003 is not
possible; the migration to a different box is suggested method, we can
install SBS 2003 on a new hardware; refer to the following white paper to
do a migration of the user and computer accounts.
Please check the white paper in the following link for the detailed
migration steps: Migrating from Small Business Server 4.5 or Windows NT
Server 4.0 to Windows Small Business Server 2003

The file name SBS_MigratingSBS45.doc and contains the detailed steps for
migrating NT 4 to SBS 2K3. Basically, to upgrade to SBS 2K3 from NT4
domain, you should perform a server migration (which involves installing
SBS 2003 on a new computer and then migrating data and settings) instead of
an In-Place upgrade.
Before beginning the migration, you must connect the local network adapter
for the destination server to the local network used by the source server,
install SBS 2K3 on the destination server with the different computer name
and domain name, use ADMT to migrate the user, group and computer accounts
from the source NT server to the SBS 2K3 server, configure the destination
server, and then finally configure the client computers. The client boxes
will have no problem connecting to the new domain with the old profiles and
user accounts; however, please Note that SBS2003 won't accept NT4 BDC, you
need to remove it prior to the upgrade.
In addition, the following is a list about useful resource for SBS 2K3:

You had mentioned that you had multiple websites hosted by IIS. We can use
the Internet Information Services 6.0 Migration Tool tool to migrate these
web sites to the SBS 2003 server. You can download the tool here:

Hope the above info helps.

| We have an NT4 server (workgroup environment) running IIS. It has a
complicated configuration with auditing, and lots of users. It's pretty
much dedicated to this function, no Exchange or anything else I can think
of.
| It seems to survive an inplace upgrade to w2k3 Enterprise quite well.
However, upgrade to SBS from there does not appear to be supported, from
w2k3 Standard it is. We only have copies of Enterprise. Is there anyway
around this? Can I use an eval of Standard then upgrade to SBS? Or, would I
be better off using ADMT, IIS Migration Tool, reconfiguring the auditing,
and hopefully not missing something?
| I think all I need is IIS and the Users & Groups; but, I'm afraid I've
overlooked something, hence the desire for inplace upgrades.
| I can do this all offline without any impact. What's the best way to do
this?
| Thanks, TV
