Hi
Firstly you must understand that SBS is designed to operate in a single
domain environment and to be the MASTER in that domain.
Although you can have lower rank servers in the same network or even remote
but connecting via VPN to the main network, the SBS at all times HAS to be
the master.
Because of this you cannot have TWO SBS servers in the same domain nor can
you Join domains together (does not support Trusts).
For clarification - DOMAIN in the server world refers to the Privately named
Local network created by your SBS server, this is entirely separate (and
should be) from your internet Presence - External Domain name/Emails etc.
So a Single SBS server network in the SBSDOMAIN.INTERNAL local domain would
also house Email for the ExternalDomain.COM
It can also be host to multiple External email domains and individual users
assigned the required domain etc.
For your scenario you could do this.
SBS server in SITE1
2003 Standard (NOT an SBS Server) in SITE2
Point to Point Routed VPN between SITE1 and SITE2
John Site2 2003 Standard to the SBSservers local domain exactly the same as
you would if the server were in the same building.
Users at SITE1 would use the Server and Services as normal.
Users at SITE2 would use 2003 Standard for local authentication
Exchange Server at SITE1 will house the EMAIL domains for both sites,
Users in both sites will use the Exchange server in Site1 for email.
For Data you can either have each site using its own server for local data
files or you can setup DFS File shares, these will replicate between the two
servers and be accessable from either side, the clients will actually obtain
the data from the closest server automatically,
TWO Sbs servers would not really be an ideal solution for your environment.
