RE: Configuring exchange 2003 in SBS

HI Isal,

Thanks for updates.

As I know, this is not related to per user mailbox, it refer to the mailbox
store on the whole Exchange server. That means you can host the mailbox
with total size up to 75GB. We have no limitation on per user mailbox, pre
outlook 2003 we have a limitation for local PST file with 2GB. You can
refer to the KB article below, but it is not relate to the mailbox store:

830336 The .pst file has a different format and folder size limit in
Outlook 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;830336

832925 How to configure the size limit for both (.pst) and (.ost) files in
Outlook 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832925/

That means you can host the mailbox beyond the 2GB, but please remember
even you apply the SP2, you still can only have a total mailbox store with
75GB for all the users.

Thanks for your effort here. I am glad to be of assistance.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

| HI Isal,
|
| Thanks for detailed updates.
|
| It seems you have many concerns on one post, some of them I can only give
| you some suggestion, as it is not relate to SBS product.
|
| 1. I have checked the OE issue, it is an expected issue, you do not need
to
| worry about that it inform that some program that run on the SBS domain
| need to gather information on the outlook address book. It did not inform
| any security attacks.
|
| a). What minimum requirement if I want this server for a fileserver?
| FYI my server running P4 2.6 GHz on 512 RAM and 40 GB Hardisk.
|
| This should be enough for a SBS 2003 standard server, but it is depend on
| the user you want to host on the SBS domain, by default we think 1 GB or
| 2GB memory is enough for a small company network with less than 75 user
|
| b) We buy this SBS using Open Lisence Program (OLP) about 30 CAL (USD
| 1800). What happen if I install this SBS to another machine (only for
| fileserver purpose). Does it violate licensing scheme?
|
| For license issue, we suggest you call license office, they will answer
| your question detailed as this might not be related with technical field,
| it might also relate with non technical issue which should best handle by
| the license office. You can contact the license office via the
information
| below:
|
| 1. For licensing questions, you may want to call 1-800-426-9400 (select
| option 4), Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. (PST) to speak
| directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist.
|
| Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing
| Sites http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/index/worldwide.asp to find
| contact information in their locations.
|
| c) How many maximum bytes that can Exchange handle for mailbox (email)
| storage? I hear an issue that exhange SBS can only handle up to 2 GB?
| is it right :(
|
| The answer is wrong, we can host 16GB mailbox store if you did not apply
| exchange sp2, if you applied the sp2, the limitation will be increase to
| 75GB which is enough for a small company.
|
| d) In linux, to prevent spam & viruses, I use spamassasin and
| Clamav/Mailscanner. Do you have some recommended software like that
| for exchange SBS? Or does exchnage SBS have facility to prevent spam
| and viruses?
|
| On the Windows system, we have so many third party software for anti-spam
| issue, you can refer to the company trend or Norton, also as I know the
| exchange itself have a lot of built in feature for anti-spam, you can
refer
| to the information below:
|
| Generally speaking, on SBS 2003 we have many anti-spam functions, which
| will help you resolve the issue, if you just want to receive the incoming
| emails from special domain, you can refer to the steps below:
|
| 1. Please check SMTP virtual server, right click it to choose properties.
| 2. In the access tab, then choose connection control, add the domain you
| want to allow to access the SMTP virtual server
| 3. Please also check the properties of Message Deliver, you can also set
| the rules there. ( You can check the message deliver properties by
Opening
| Exchange System Management->Global setting->Message deliver.)
|
| We also have a good anti-spam free software called IMF, please refer the
| information below:
|
| Microsoft Exchange Intelligent Message Filter Deployment Guide
|
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/2003/library/imfdeploy
| .mspx
|
| e) do you have some reference how to combine linux and exchange? Is it
| possible to get email mesage from Linux server to Exchnage SBS using
| POP3 connector?
|
| I am sorry we have no such documents for that field, you have to contact
| linux for further information.
|
|
| Hope the information below helpful to your issue, I am glad to be of
| assistance.

| |
| | HI Isal,
| |
| | Welcome to SBS newsgroup.
| |
| |
| | Issue description:
| | ================
| |
| | I understand that you want to know how to configure the Exchange 2003
| | server on the SBS domain.
| |
| | Analyzing and suggestion:
| | ================
| |
| | Generally speaking, it is very simple to configure Exchange components
on
| | SBS 2003, not like standard Exchange 2003 server, on SBS 2003 the
| Exchange
| | components is integrated with SBS core. We can use CEICW wizard to
| | automatically configure all the Email settings for Exchange components.
| You
| | can refer to the steps below:
| |
| | 1. Open Server Managements.
| | 2. Expand to Internet and Email node.
| | 3. Click "Connect to the Internet" to run the wizard.
| |
| | Please note that you need to point the DNS server on all the client
| | computer and SBS server to SBS internal NIC, for the DNS from ISP
please
| | use it as the forward DNS server, you can configure it on the wizard.
| |
| | You can use either smarthost or DNS to route your internet emails, if
you
| | have a FQDN name for your SBS domain and you can use DNS to route your
| | internet emails. If you did not have a FQDN name or you use a dynamic
IP
| | address for your SBS public IP, it is your best interest to ask your
ISP
| to
| | create a MX records on their smarthost then you can forward all your
| | internet emails to ISP's Smarthost.
| |
| | On the last part of the wizard, you may add your POP3 mailbox to the
SBS
| | 2003 POP3 connectors, the POP3 connectors will help you receive the
| emails
| | from ISP then router them to your personal Exchange mailbox.
| |
| | For detailed steps about running CEICW wizard, we suggest you refer to
| the
| | KB article below:

Server
| | 2003

| you
| | have any further concerns on this issue. I am glad to be of further
| | assistance.
