Re: transition pack alternative

HI Mark,

I am sorry for not clear the issue, in my last reply, I explained it
clearly that we could not use the AD and exchange database on a SBS system
backup to restore on a Windows 2003 server. That why I ask if you have any
other purpose.

After checking your reply, we found you want to restore the AD and exchange
database on the SBS backup to a new installed Windows 2003 server, from the
technical side, it is not possible to do that. It will cause a lot of
problem.

Thanks for your understanding on this issue.

Best regards,

Charles Yang (MSFT)

| No, you are not understanding it correctly. I understand that this is
| a free service and all, but I AM WRITING IN PLAIN ENGLISH. THERE IS
| NOTHING CONFUSING ABOUT MY PLAN.
|
| My whole question revolves around not wanting to install the Transition
| Pack. I had a problem using the Transition pack on a previous client's
| system, and it makes me wary of using it again.
|
| I want to bring up a clean Windows 2003 STANDARD environment - no
| traces of SBS. However, I want to restore the AD and Exchange
| databases of the old SBS systems to that Windows 2003 environment.
|
| So what I'm asking is: can I take the AD and Exchange databases of an
| SBS system, and then restore them to a Windows Server 2003 standard
| environment (two separate 2003 servers)? I'm not sure how much clearer
| I can make that statement, and if you don't understand it - you're
| never going to understand it.
|
| In my experience, I've found the "left overs" of a transition server
| are annoying and cause for concern. To lower my future support costs
| for my clients, I prefer to start with clean environments. I don't
| usually do "upgrades" ... and my experience with the transition pack
| has quite frankly sucked.
