Re: Possible Trend SMB 3.0 CSM problem on SBS2003 - UPDATE

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Day five of the saga and everything seems to be back to normal. Reinstalled the GPMC and ISA Server 2004. Did not have any performance problems or client connectivity issues. Just to make sure I was not crazy I went back and double checked the settings on the Trend CSM 3.0 Security Dashboard and the firewall was not checked for any of the machines. The only thing that has not been put back in place since everything started to behave again was turning the Trend personal firewall service back on on the servers.

I did notice a couple of things while checking things out. The SMEX service is using up a lot of memory. On my box the stores.exe process is pulling about 600 MB of RAM. ISA was about 150 MB. But the SMEX service was pulling about 230 MB. Does this sound right? I have used the Trend AV since SBS 4.5 and have not had what appears to be problems like this. I am going to do more testing this weekend with the Trend personal firewall and see what happens when I turn it back on. For some reason I seem to think that the Trend may not be playing nice even though the firewall services is set to off.

One final note. It appears I created my own Darwin award. Checked Susan's blog like I do every day. And what do I see but my stupidity posted for all to see. Not quite how I wanted to make it on a SBS site but if someone learns what not to do from my mistake then I guess I did a good service for someone.
