sharepoint - feature overview

I'm curious to know if sharepoint can do the following:

* Mirror an actual share server. For instance e:\network_data\shared is my S drive - can Sharepoint point to this as a share through it's interface?

What are the different ways people can connect to Sharepoint? Is there a way to use Outlook 2003 to connect some way? I've seen an open source program called Subversion that allows Thunderbird clients to tie in with a document sharing system similar to what i picture sharepoint to be. I'm curious to know all the different ways (advanced ways) Sharepoint can be used.

Any input is appreciated.
