RE: Moving SBS to new server as disaster recovery plan

Hi John,

Thank you for posting here.

Actually, if you want to move the SBS system to another box with different
hardware, you should not simply using backup/restore. Instead, a migration
is a better plan.

You can refer to the following White Paper:

Migrating from Small Business Server 2000 or Windows 2000 Server to Windows
Small Business Server 2003
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=49928

The above White Paper is for SBS 2000 to SBS 2003, SBS 2003 to SBS 2003 is
almost the same. Please do the test in a lab before performing it in
production environment.

We would also like to introduce you to the PSS Advisory Services team. They
may able to provide action plan for the migration (or even changing
hardware without migration).

Advisory Services is a remotely delivered, hourly fee-based, consultative
support option that provides a comprehensive result beyond your break-fix
product maintenance needs. This support option includes working with the
same technician for assistance with issues like product migration, code
review, or new program development.

For more info in the US and Canada:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=AdvisoryService

Outside of the US/Canada:

I hope the above info helps. If you have any concerns, please don't
hesitate to post back.

Regards,

Bill Peng
