Is there any way to change the group policy surrounding the windows firewall to give each machine/user control over whether or not they want the windows
firewall on?
Sometimes during the course of troubleshooting it makes sense to turn off
the firewall to ensure that it is not causing problems. I found a setting
to disable the firewall in group policy: Administrative
Templates...Network...Network Connections...Windows Firewall...Domain
Profile...Windows Firewall: Protect all network connections. Disabling this
will disable the firewall. This is less than ideal though, since it
disables everyone's firewall, and leaves no option to turn on the firewall.
Is there a place where I can let each individual user/computer control this?
That way they will be able to turn off the firewall when necessary, and
leave it on otherwise.
