IMO the simplest way to do this is to stop the POP3 Connector in Services,
then send yourself a couple of test messages from a webmail interface or
whatever.
Last time I changed mail records, it not only took a day or so for the
changes to go through, but it happened at different rates for different
locales. By that I mean, I could go to a website like
http://www.dnsstuff.com/ and see that my records were correct, about a full
day earlier than I could send myself a test message successfully from my
local ISP. If I had to bet, I'd guess the record was cached at the local
ISP, since they were the host I was leaving, and mail from their domain did
not work until the cached records expired.
