Hello Herman,
Thank you for posting to the SBS Newsgroup.
I understand that all of your clients have the same issue when they use RDP
through RWW, the connection will drop periodic.
You also have tried:
a. This issue affects to all clients.
b. It works correctly if you use RDP directly connect to the remote
computer.
c. KB 821438.
d. Adjust the NIC speed on SBS Server to 100Mb Full Duplex.
If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.
Based on my research, this is a complicated issue. My reply is a bit long,
so please take your time to read my suggestions. If the issue persists,
please help to gather more detail information for further research. I
greatly appreciated your time and co-operation!
==================
Suggestions:
a. If you are running Windows XP SP2 client workstations to connect from.
Windows XP SP2 has a pop-up stopper which will block the Web RDP session.
In Internet Explorer on the workstations you are connecting from, go to
Tools, Internet Options, then click on the Privacy tab, remove the check
for Block pop-ups. Close and reopen IE and check if you can connect now. If
you have third party pop-up stopper software installed, please also disable
it.
b. I suggest that we rerun Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard.
825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763
[Note]: The DNS address on workstations and SBS Server must be the SBS
Server Internal NIC IP address.
c. Perform Clean boot on the server to check whether there is any third
party interference:
i. Click Start->Run, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotation marks) and
click OK.
ii. In the System Configuration Utility (MSConfig) window, click the
"Startup" tab.
iii. Click to clear all the check marks from the list box under "Startup".
iv. Click the Services tab, check the "Hide all Microsoft Services" box and
then click the "Disable All" button to disable the non-Microsoft services.
v. Click OK to close the MSConfig window. Click Yes when you are asked to
restart your computer in order to enable the changes.
vi. After restarting, please check whether this issue still exists.
======================
Gather more information:
If the issue persists after you performed all the steps above, please help
to gather more detail information for further research:
1. Did RDP through RWW function well before? When did the issue occur? Did
you install any updates or make any changes on the server?
2. How many NICs installed on SBS 2K3 Server? What is your Network
Topology? For example:
{Remote Clients} {Router} {NIC2} {SBS 2K3 SP1} {NIC2} {Internal Clients}
3. Does this issue occur in LAN or from the Internet?
4. If you log on the Server Console, open RWW, RDP to a client workstation,
will this issue occur?
5. In the SBS LAN, on client computer, use RWW to Remote to another XP
client, can the problem be reproduced? This can tell us if the problem is
related to the SBS configuration (such as IIS virtual site, timeout
settings.)
6. Does the connection disconnected on a regular basis (such as every 30
mins) or just randomly?
Please take your time to perform the steps above and collect the
information for us to troubleshoot your issue. If anything is unclear,
please feel free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,
Brandy Nee
