Hi lisle,
Thanks for posting here!
For your description, I understand that the server box can not ping one
client workstation after upgraded to SBS 2003 SP1. If I am off base, please
don't hesitate to let me know.
Let"s do some tests to try to trouble shoot the issue:
I. Please check if you have checked the box of Append parent suffixes of
the primary DNS suffix on the client workstation(Local network connection
Properties -> choose Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties button
to open Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties page. Click Advanced -> DNS
tab, please ensure check the box of "Append parent suffixes of the primary
DNS suffix ").
Try to test again, how about the result?
II. If the issue persists, please check the following settings and then
test:
1. Reboot the SBS Server.
2. Leave the Default Gateway of the internal NIC blank.
3. Configure both the internal NIC and the external NIC to use the internal
DNS Service as the DNS Server.
4. Strictly followed the instructions in the KB article below to re-run
CEICW:
825763 How to configure Internet access in Windows Small Business Server
2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=825763
5. On the client workstation, run "ipconfig /release" and then run
"ipconfig /renew". Does the problem still exist?
III. What you used to ping? Is the workstation computer name, DNS name or
IP address? Try to use others to test, how about the result?
Please perform the steps below and then test using all methods (computer
name, DNS name or IP address)
1. On a XP client, type CMD in Start, Run and press Enter.
2. Type the following commands after the command prompt:
> ipconfig /flushdns
> ipconfig /registerdns
3. Type Exit and press Enter to close the CMD window.
4. Restart the computer to test again.
If the issue persists, please help me collect some information for further
analyze:
1. Please give me IP address report of the SBS server box and the
problematic workstation using commands "ipconfig /all" (no quotation marks).
2. Does the issue happen on the other workstations? Or only the workstation?
3. Have you installed any Anti-virus application on the client? Have you
installed ISA on the server box?
I appreciate your time and efforts to perform test. I am happy to be
assistance of you and look forward to your reply!
Have a nice day!
Sincerely,
Jenny Wu
