Software Update Solution

Hi all,
when I was setting up my SBS, I followed the steps in my book on
setting up the SBS, and everything went very well.
One of the steps in the book was to activate the automatic software
update feature. I think the process was called SAS?? It involved
going ot the microsoft web site, downloading an application which
scheduled a process to download the latest patches etc. The booked
talked about it scanning the network for client PCs, working out what
software they were running, and automaticlly downloading the latest
patches for the products and applying them.
The book then stopped there and moved onto a different subject. No
mention of how SAS got the PC details, how it applied the software
patches etc.
I set the schedule for the first download this Sunday, and there was a
massive spike in internet downloads from the server at the scheduled
time - but this morning - nothing. No report of updates, the server
does not seem to have done anything, and the client PCs had no majic
pop-up window of "New patches available - download now!".
Am I talking about something that people have set-up here? Is SAS the
right term for it? How do I set the clients to pick up the updates.
In a nutshell, it would be nice for the Server to say things like
"right, PC A is running XP and office 2003, so lets download the latest
XP patches, and office patches. Ah, now the PC is connected so here
yopu go PC, have these patches". I know XP will download via the
internet, but I dont want 10 PCs all downloading the same patch.
The book seemed to imply that this facility was available, and then
trailed off after the set-up of the scheduled download. What do I need
to do - is there any more reading information?
.
