Hi,
Welcome to SBS newsgroup.
I am sorry for the delayed response due to weekend. Please understand that
the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals to
answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
greatly appreciated!
Issue description:
============
I understand that you want to know how to check the active connection from
the SBS domain clients or device.
Analyzing and suggestions:
=============
Generally speaking, you can use DHCP to assign a permanently IP address for
client computer and devices. You can follow my steps below to do that:
1. Open DHCP console on the administrator tools.
2. Expand the server node then you may find the reservation options, you
can assign the same IP address to the client computer all the time by using
the MAC address of the devices.
By default, we will use Address lease option on the DHCP console to view
all the IP address that had already assigned to SBS domain. It will list
all the IP address that has already been used on the SBS domain.
You cannot monitor the active connection with the DHCP server address
leases list, because when the client computer obtains an IP address from
the DHCP server, the DHCP communication will be terminated and there is no
active connection between the client computer and the DHCP server. If you
want to monitor the active domain users, you can use a command "net
session" in the command prompt.

| I know this sounds like a question I should know already, but I am having
a
| brain dump kind of day.
|
| Other than using DHCP, how can I tell which clients are actually active
and
| being utilized?
|
| This would assume that all users log off when they are done. I would like
to
| be able to look at a screen that would provide some sort of list that has
all
| of the active connections and their respective IP addresses. This would
have
| all of my Win XP Pro clients and all of my attached network printers and
| hardware that has an IP assigned. Although I do use the server's DHCP, I
| static assign all of the IP to the printers and XP Pro clients for
specific
| purposes.
|
| Any thoughts out there?
|
| (Running SBS2k3 standard-sp1, clients are XP Pro/sp2)
|
| Thanks:)
